Now that Florida shrimp prices have dipped below $10 a pound at some markets, I have resumed my quest for delicious new shrimp recipes. In past years I have tried Ree Drummond’s Shrimp Scampi, Emeril’s Shrimp Creole, Shrimp Curry, Szechuan Shrimp, Chipotle Shrimp Tacos, and BOOM Buffalo Shrimp. All these were delicious, but I had yet to try a Fresh from Florida recipe. Fresh from Florida is the Florida Department of Agriculture’s website, featuring recipes that utilize fresh ingredients from Florida. At the time I wrote this, their shrimp page featured over 40 different shrimp recipes. This week I cooked up Florida Gulf Shrimp and Sweet Pepper Stir-Fry. Not all of the Florida ingredients featured in this recipe were in season, so I had to improvise a little bit, using sweet peppers from Canada and Holland, and orange juice made fresh from Chilean oranges. However, the results won the approval of my family.
All produce and local honey came from Steve’s Produce, a family-run market in Palm Harbor, FL.
