A trip to City Hall for artist Juan T. V. Martin’s Commendation

When I was first invited to Cuban artist Juan T. Vázquez Martín‘s commendation at the Old City Hall in downtown Tampa, I imagined Juan receiving his award on the steps of City Hall like a Marvel superhero being given a key to the city.  This is why I started to panic just a little bit when I woke to the sound of crashing thunder this morning.  Luckily, Juan’s commendation was indoors, in the City Council’s chamber.

At approximately 9:15 this morning, Councilman Charlie Miranda awarded Juan Martín with a well-deserved Tampa City Council Commendation in recognition of his artistic talents.  Juan graciously accepted the award, thanking those who have supported his artistic endeavors in the city of Tampa.

As a reminder, Councilman Miranda’s collection of Cuban art is still on display at the TECO public art gallery, but only until Thursday, September 3, 2015.
