With Clearwater Beach in sight, the cars started backing up on Causeway Blvd. For a few moments, there was bumper-to- bumper beach-bound traffic. Since I wasn’t driving, this provided a unique photo opportunity. I was free to snap shots of Clearwater Harbor from the middle of the road without getting run over.
It seemed everyone was coming for Frenchy’s Stone Crab Weekend, a two-day once-a-year seafood extravaganza on Clearwater Beach. As we turned into the parking lot on East Shore Drive across from Frenchy’s Saltwater Café, we were offered the last parking spot in the lot.
The Stone Crabs and the entertainment were divided between two locations: (1) the Frenchy’s Saltwater Café Tent (pictured above), and (2) outside the Frenchy’s Original Café about two blocks north on 41 Baymont Street.
We sat at one of about a dozen tables under the blue-and-white striped party tent and ordered Sangria, Stone Crab Claws, and Smoked Fish Spread.
Frenchy’s Stone Crab Weekend is a quintessential Florida experience, set in Florida’s best beach town and celebrating its best food traditions. I highly recommend it.
