It’s 5 o’clock somewhere: Happy Hour at Oldsmar’s Salt Rock Tavern

Here at Florida Illustrated we’re on a mission: a mission to find the best Happy Hours in the Tampa Bay area. It’s a big job, but somebody’s got to do it. Thankfully, I have a plan. Most people have a favorite Happy Hour near their house, and I am no exception. My plan is to share my favorite happy hour (thus far) here, and then use a Facebook ad to collect your Happy Hour recommendations. Everyone gets to be an expert today, so don’t forgot to comment either here or on Facebook (by May 11th) to let me know where your favorite Happy Hour is and what makes it so special.

Thus far, my favorite Happy Hour is at Salt Rock Tavern in Oldsmar, FL. Salt Rock Tavern is an American grill in Oldsmar, with Florida flair. They offer over a dozen small plates, 5 different flatbreads, 10 sandwiches (including burgers), and a list of favorites that includes grouper, mahi, salmon, shrimp & grits, clam linguine, filet mignon, and NY strip steak.

Happy Hour is every day of the week, from 4 to 7 pm, and on Mondays their Happy Hour is all day long. Note: Happy Hour also has extended hours on Saturday and Sunday (Saturday: noon – 7 pm; Sunday: 2 pm – close). During this time, you can get $7 flatbreads and burgers (normally $7.50-$11), along with 10 different $5.90 appetizers (normally $6.50-$9.90). There isn’t a bad bite to be had here. My favorites are the filet mignon k-bobs and Italian sausage flatbread, but the raw oysters, tavern meatballs, and wings are also highly recommended.

The drink specials are every bit as impressive as the food specials, with $5 craft beer and martinis, $3.75 wells and house wines, and $1.75 Bud Light or PBR. I’m a big fan of their blueberry thrill and lemon drop martinis.

I love a Happy Hour where I can get both food and drink specials. If the food specials include some seafood and the drink specials include cocktails, that’s even better. What makes a great Happy Hour for you? Don’t forgot to give me your Happy Hour recommendation by May 11, 2017. I will be collecting your recommendations in a Tampa Bay Happy Hour index, which I will post here on Florida Illustrated on May 25th.
