3 Things to do this November

  1. Enjoy art outside.  ‘Tis the season to go shopping, and local artists are hoping you might consider purchasing a unique hand-crafted gift for your loved one this year.  November is the most popular time of year for outdoor arts and crafts shows in the Tampa Bay area.  Last weekend 200+ artists, from all over the country, showed up for Dunedin’s Art Harvest, considered “the largest autumn art show in the Tampa Bay area.” DSC04484 aDSC04496 aDSC04492DSC04501 aDSC04473 aDSC04477 aUpcoming outdoor art events in Tampa Bay include Clearwater’s Christmas Under the Oaks on Nov 15th, Treasure Island’s Sanding Ovations Nov 18-22 (pictured below), and St. Petersburg’s CraftArt Festival on Nov 21st and 22nd.sanding ovations 2012 6 asanding ovations 2012 5 asanding ovations 2012 7 asanding ovations 2012 8 (2)asanding ovations 2012 4asanding ovations 2012a
  2. Try out new holiday recipes.  Smarter people diet before the holidays, but I like to try out new holiday recipes.  If you’d like to try out some new holiday recipes too, I have three links you should check out.  Thanksgiving recipes from The Chew are online at: http://abc.go.com/shows/the-chew/food/599102/Thanksgiving.  I tried Mario Batali’s Turkey Canneloni this week and it was delicious.  DSC04515In addition to The Chew, The Today Show has also been featuring several celebrity chefs cooking up holiday dishes this November.  Visit their Thanksgiving webpage for the recipes: http://www.today.com/food/label/thanksgiving.  My family and I have already feasted on Valerie Bertinelli’s Turkey Meatloaf with Brussels Sprouts and Giada’s Sausage, Spinach, and Apple StrataDSC04455DSC04452 aDSC04470Last but not least, be sure to visit the Food Network’s Thanksgiving Central at: http://www.foodnetwork.com/thanksgiving.html
  3. Brush up on your photography skills before the holidays. A lot of different local arts centers, camera stores, and museums offer reasonably-priced (sometimes free) photography seminars/workshops/classes for anyone interested in taking better pictures.  I went to a photography lecture at Lake Shore Camera Shop/Snappers two weeks ago, entitled “Your Digital Darkroom,” that discussed the various tools on the market for photo editing. For those living in the Tampa Bay area: Check fmopa.org for upcoming photography workshops at the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts in Tampa.  The Dunedin Fine Arts Center and Lake Shore Camera websites also list upcoming photography workshops, seminars and classes.
